We love dachshunds, we used to have five dogs, four of them doxies. All five dogs died within one and a half years of each other and they all lived to be 15 to 18 years old. We were blessed with a loving, happy time with our dogs, but it left a hole and a passion in our hearts to help other dachshunds. This time around we vow to own only one or two, but we will foster what the system needs.
This is Topper. He is only one half doxie, so he has long legs. He came to our house a couple of days ago and he is less than 2 years old. Sadly, he has never known a real loving home. He came to our rescue over a year ago, but the inexperienced foster parents lost the wily and street wise Topper on the first day (through no fault of the foster parents, some of these rescue dogs are very good at escaping). He was found by animal control recently and thankfully they located the CC Dachshund Rescue chip that was placed in him. Apparently all this time a family was feeding him but not really homing him.
Topper is a very sweet, neutered boy who is house broken, but loves to be outside. He needs a tall fence with a secure gate. Topper will loyally follow his "people" around everywhere and then sit quietly at their side. Every day at approximately 3:00 he gets very excited so I believe he waited for a school bus load of children and they played with him as he cries and looks all over for someone. Topper is a bit skinny right now but when he fills out will look much better.
If you or someone you know might be interested in adopting Topper please go to the Rescue link on the right side of my blog. The Facebook page it takes you to has contact information. Or perhaps you are looking for a place to donate money which brings you tax benefits. All proceeds go to the medical care of these dachshunds. I was amazed when I found out how much medical care each of these dachshunds need when they are first brought in. Thanks for reading about Topper!
