I probably won't dazzle anyone with intricate beadwoven masterpieces, or exciting blog posts, but I hope to enlighten a few soon-to-be or want-to-be bead artists on how to start their own business or, what not to do. If you're interested in fashion or jewelry trends than I hope you will learn and understand about the jewelry that you buy/wear. Or, everyone can just laugh as I bungle through like an idiot. In any case welcome to my journey.
The title of this post talks about firsts. It seems like lately I have put a lot of beading related firsts under my belt. First business license, first craft show, first bead society meeting, first blog post, etc. The top picture is our Las Cruces Bead Society Banner at our booth at the Holy Cross Renaissance Fine Arts Faire. Approximately 13 members participated, including me, with many types of beaded goodies. The members of the society are very gifted bead artists and our booth was very busy. I enjoyed the atmosphere at the faire and even met another artist who named her business after her 1/2 Arab horse with the surname "jur." Our horses were related! Unfortunately her horse too had an unfortunate death. Her name is Linda Hagen and her paintings, many horse related, are gorgeous!
The bottom picture is a bracelet I made recently from a tutorial by Callie Mitchell, once one of the Bead Mavens. This was the first tutorial I had ever purchased. Callie Mitchell is no longer beading, at least not selling tutorials or product on the internet, so I feel lucky to have a few of her tutorials on hand. On researching this post I discovered the Bead Mavens have also dis-banded (is that a word?), though as individual artists the mavens are still creating wonderful beadwork and selling on the internet. Ms. Mitchell and the Bead Mavens will be greatly missed!
